Even with vent in top center and pegs put through leg plates in ground wind still grabbed and tossed this unit like a piece of paper.
A normal wind gust that did nothing to my other canopies broke this one and twisted it into knots.
I purchased this for a backyard party on a hot, sunny day. I found that it was easy to set up and take down and provides a huge amount of shade. The ceiling is very high. The plastic glider make taking it down a snap. I bought an aluminum shade from [...]a couple years ago with flimsier gliders and it snaped the first time I took it down.I haven't use it in wind or rain but I can see that it would not hold up well. Best for sun shade use.Given my first experience with a different sunshade I bought the protection plan from [...]so if it breaks for any reason during the first two years, I should get a refund.
We purchased this for use in our yard, as we are having neighborhood parties every Fri-Sun. It was great to use during our son's birthday party and did rather well until the next day when the wind picked up just a tiny bit. Sadly, it snapped with one gust, without prior warning. However, we plan on purchasing another unit, now knowing how much wind is too much wind. I guess that's what you get for living in the Windy City.
The 12 x 12 is not as strong as the 10x10...had our 10x10 for 8 years....freinds we camp with often get the 12's and they only last 3-4 years...10's are industrial strength!!
Great if you need a sun shade, A slightly more than hard rain caused the unit to buckle and colapse.
I have had the 12X12 Quick Shade for 2 yrs. It still is in great shape. It's been through wind & rain, & came through fine. I just bought another one to put up as well for more shade from the sun & rain protection. [...]I'll buy again.
I have owned a 10X10 weekender for 7 yrs now
I borrowed my neighbors 12X12, found it was easy to set up and takedown after use and easy to transport due to the wheeled storage bag
I'll be buying myself one soon
I purchased mine today. After about three hours of stretching to open it, it finally opened. When we locked the canopy in place, a piece of aluminum broke out of the plastic and severed my wrist.I went inside to stop the bleeding and bandaged up my wrist. When I got back outside the canopy blew off the patio laying upside down in the yard.I tried to fold it up and package it but I was unable to. I had to use a circular saw with an all purpose blade to cut it up for the weekly trash pickup.
The 12 x 12 size is perfect for team sports. Good for shade or light drizzle. Frame is not suitable for prolonged medium rain or heavy rains as the canopy collects water and the horizontal frame will bend and break - could be dangerous. Poor design for durability and strength - did the company even test it? I am now trying to get spare parts.
It's an inexpensive product and should be used according to its mechanical and manufactured strengths; it's not a permanent structure. Should only be used in light breezes and rain drizzle. Feet/legs must be anchored securely. Heavy rains will crush framework. The cover is nearly indestructable. Ability to adjust to lower height helps when mostly sitting in sun or light rain/drizzle. If rains quickly become heavy-turn canopy upside down and move into something more substatial; rain will fill canopy and prevent severe damage.
We have 3 now. Am purchasing 3 more. We make tent cities. Put up kitchen, sleeping and lounging areas. Great for big families, easier than tents. We put up tarps for walls and floors. If you put them up correctly wind is not a problem. Have used them in Hollister, Moab, Rubicon, and Johnson Valley.
Great product.
A 5-minute rain shower caused water to collect on top, bending the frame and making the canopy unusable. Mfg. says their warranty does not cover weather damage. So, if it starts raining, you must take it down immediately to avoid damage. Hence, not worth time or $$$. [...]
The PS Compact Recreational 12 is very spacious and accommodating for our equipment. However, it is not stable and actually collapsed several times when the wind started blowing at the outdoor concert that we were attending. I had to use extra heavy duty tie downs (EHDTD) that I just happened to have with me, to keep the unit upright and stable. I suggest using EHDTD at all times.
