For each burner you have to hold in the ignite button for about a minute, until the gas line expands enough to allow the propane to pass through. This is typical with a gas heater, the problem is the heating element gets hot enough to burn the hair of your arm about the time you can release the ignite button. You need to be extra careful not to burn yourself during the lighting process.
