The Schutt® Y Flex™ is an entry-level shoulder pad for the youth player. The arch has an extended cut in both the front and the back for extra protection for young bones. Maximum protection is provided by impact channels that replicate the AiR Flex™ line and feature a 2-layer foam padding system. The AEGIS® germ-fighting agent fights against an array of bacteria, fungus, germs, and mold.

    This review is actually based on everything my 8 year old has said about these after I bought a set for him in his 2nd year of tackle this past season. Good price, lighter and more breathable than team issue. The only problem was - these were not really designed for big kids - my son is XXL for his age in both ht and wt, the double strap underarms were uncomfortble and the starps connected too high on the chest (I bought the XL size based on wt/chest size recomendations listed on the product). I cut the extra strap off, moved the strap hole lower and re-riveted it - and he was thrilled - turned team pads back in and used these every practice and game and got them for the season coming up. Only other complaint was rivet cover tabs on inside of pads-he said they rubbed him without a shirt on under the pads, but being a big guy he always wears a shirt under anyway.
