It does most things that you'd expect of it well. Some of the parts did not line up exactly making assembly more difficult. 3 hours for me. Assembled it's quite sturdy with good alignment and no warping.
Biggest downside for me is the playback position. There is about a 6 inch gap between the net and the upright half. This forces you to strike the ball harder than you normally would to make it clear the net on the rebound. So while you can hit the ball by yourself, it won't be really good practice. If you don't plan to use the playback position it's fine.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
This is a nice table. I bought it for the family for recreational play, so I can't say if it's competative-quality, but it's sturdy and plays well. It comes with the net and posts, but no rackets or balls - I went to a local Sports Authority and bought some before the table was delivered. Shipping was very fast - I had the table 8 days after I ordered it. It took 3 hours to completely assemble - the directions were short on words, but very easy to understand. Be sure to have 2 extra strong people to help with setting the table tops onto the base. A word of advice - have those 2 strong people continue to hold the table tops in place on the base while you assemble the remaining support peices. A small plastic guide/support (that gets screwed to the underside of the table before it goes on the base) pulled away and damaged the underside of my table when we set the 1st half of the table top in place. I was able to correct it, but I definitely had my helpers keep ahold of the 2nd half of the table top so it wouldn't happen again. It would be nice if the underside of the table had something more than just the particleboardto screw the supports into..[...] Overall - I'm very happy with it!
