Although they only add up to 39lbs total, this is very accurate. The weights are basically what you would expect. I bought 4 10lb plates on the side so now I can have 40lb dumbbells and every wieght in between that. If you cannot afford an expensive gym pass or a home gym this is definately the way to go.

True weight is 36.4 lbs. Each bar with caps is 3.2 lbs...no 1 and a quarter lb plates available at my local store. I bought 2 crome sets, they look classy. If I had a car I would find a larger set from a private party at same price or less. I would recommend to a rich weak friend only. They are too pricey.

When you put on all of the weight the total pounds=40, the bar weighs 7#, and the two spin on locks weigh 1.5# each. Your getting what you paid for dont worry. This product also gives you the same results as some $200+ equiptment that just helps you to quickly add/take off weight.

BE AWARE: It's labeled as a 40# set, but the actual weights that come with it add up to 30# (4x 5#, 4x 2.5#), which implies that each bar and two spin caps weighs 5#. They don't. Be aware, but other than that, they're great. I intend on buying another set to make the weight difference for what I need. The sturdy storage case makes it mobile and convenient for moving. Since I already have one set, it's very worthwhile to add another to my collection.
