Comments about Sports Tutor Gold Volleyball Tutor - AC Version:
I got one a couple of years ago. I used it to practice by myself so I could do a varied set of drills - serve returns, passing, and attack the net. What it can't do well is set the ball up for a spike. It will shoot the ball from one end of the court to the other end no problem but if you wanted the ball to be shot as if a setter is setting you the ball, nope. There is hope - I was able to modify mine by cutting the channel that controls the height of the arc of the ball so it would shoot out at a higher angle. Problem solved. Other issues and how I solved them: The remote switch: It is great in cutting off the ball feeder - if you are standing at it. If you are at the machine your only option is to kill the power. I hate doing that. What I did was I added a "T" fitting and a squeeze bulb so I can have a second remote switch right at the machine. Problem solve. The remote switch is nothing more than a tube with a foot type squeeze bulb. You get a bunch of hose so it is great for practicing returns and passing drills. Restricting usage: I used my machine at the local volleyball club. Seeing how the machine weighed a few pounds I thought of leaving the machine there. The problem is someone else would try to use it or even worse, walk off with it. Over the years the club has had several portable machines grow legs. To solve this problem I installed a key switch on the control panel. With the key in the off position the machine was inoperative. Problem solved. Ball feeder: The ramp only holds 6 balls. Having some option to hold more would have been great. The ramp is also a separate item. It may be standard now. IMPORTANT – the pressure of the balls is extremely important. Volleyballs that are underinflated will not exit the machine correctly. Speed control – NICE FEATURE. One con - If there was a battery meter installed that would have been a nice addition to the unit. Seeing how much I paid for it I may just add one to it for a nice modification. Overall I loved the machine. It does what I need and having the battery to run it made it a joy to use.
