Comments about Allen Bike Racks Allen Deluxe Trunk Mount Bike Carrier - 2 Bikes:
Used this bike rack for 3 seasons, long trips up north and weekly rides. The straps finally wore out but for the cheap price, it was an easy rack to mount on the back of my station wagon and worked great carrying two mountain bikes. My small frame mountain bike only fit with one side under the bottom tube and the other side under the top tube.
Comments about Allen Bike Racks Allen Deluxe Trunk Mount Bike Carrier - 2 Bikes:
We bought this rack to transport our two 26" MTB's. Both are Mongoose's and one is a large frame weighing approximately 34 lbs. and the other is a medium frame weighing about 25 lbs. When we use it, it is mounted on the trunk lid of my wife's company car, a 2007 Impala. It has padding on contact points and I did not notice any scratching or metal contact with both bikes on there. Installation was pretty straightforward and the unit is light and folds when not in use.
I have had no issues placing either bike on the rack (and they are both full suspension with different pivot points for each). It handles both bikes well and I do use a few bungees in key places to keep the bikes from swinging in to each other such as the front forks. It has hauled them down the highway at speeds of up to 70 mph and I did not notice any banging around. I would recommend to check the straps after even short trips to ensure they do not come loose and especially if you are going on long trips. I checked them after a short drive and there was very minimal loosening, not enough to make me worry. The rack has good horizontal and vertical stability as well with bikes loaded and I did not notice "twisting" of the rack when loaded and cornering. Overall, it does its job at a good price. I would also recommend some sort of lock if you were to be away from the car with the bikes mounted as there is no locking feature on the tube straps. I have not used any other rack before so I can not compare it, but again, it is easy to use, easy to mount, and does the job well for a good price compared to other higher priced models.
