I fricken love this machine. The perk of keeping cool with extra fan on frame that compliments the face fan is awesome allowing me to go for about 90 minutes. It's quiet so I don't have to blast TV or music at O-Dark-Hundred (when I usually use it). Only downside is that I'm now disappointed by the equipment found in hotel fitness centers that are not nearly as high tech!

          Comments about FreeMotion e5.5 Elliptical:

While deciding to purchase a new elliptical machine, we wanted to choose a model that was durable and offered a variety of workout options (including a heart-monitor). The specs matched what we were looking for, and the iFit seemed like a great way to mix up the workout with technology. I bought this primarily to exercise following knee surgery, and my #1 exercise method is using a target heart rate and raising / lowering my resistance to keep me in the zone.

Within the first five workouts, we had to have this unit replaced twice. The first time, it literally fell apart while workout out, gouging a hole through the rubber mat (could have been the hardwood floors!). The console on the second unit died after the second workout, so it also had to be replaced.

The third unit has worked, so far, but this is where we learned that iFit does not work as advertised (and really isn't geared for ellipticals, as we were led to believe). Also, we were told that the premium content was included with the purchase, not that it would require an annual subscription to continue its usage (since nothing is actually stored on the machine).

The current unit is also problematic. The leg section makes a clicking noise with each rotation (I think this may be related to the adjustable foot areas, but not sure). The fan is quite loud, and if you connect an iPod / iPhone for music (which doesn't charge, it only connects via a stereo cord), then the beeps are incredibly loud (very poor design, IMHO). Finally, the heart monitoring is awful on the arms (jumps from 40 to 180 to un-readable), so I can only complete a heart workout by using the chest strap.

I would not buy this item again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else. I would recommend dedicating the money from the technology into reliability.

I use this product at home. I've had it for almost a year. I've had a technician come out twice to figure out why it squeaks on the left side. The last technician that came fixed it by tightening all of the bolts and screws. But now a few months later, the squeaking has begun all over again. I really just want it to work properly so that I can relax and workout.

Purchased mid-April. Delivered early May. Flywheel assembled at factory doesn't work according to repair man. Cannot return defective item without disassembling and getting all the pieces back into the box. We all know how easy that is! Call to return. No store returns. No manager available-will call on Monday. We'll see. Save yourself the trouble and buy at a store. Have 2 Nordic Track products from the 90s that never require repair. Nordic Track is not what it used to be.

                Comments about FreeMotion e5.5 Elliptical:

The elliptical took me over an hour to assemble with the help of someone else. The assembly was not difficult but make sure you read the directions carefully. The elliptical felt solid and grounded but the stride was hard to move at its lowest resistance setting. The company informed me I needed to loosen the drive belt and the problem would be corrected. After reviewing the "how to" directions, It appears it will require me to remove over 20 screw/bolts and various parts just to reach the belt adjustment bolt. The machine has been assembled for over a week but I have not been able to use it yet. I'm not sure if belt adjustments are common with new ellipticals but when the problem gets corrected, I believe it will turn out to be a decent machine.

There are so many bells and whistles on this machine. I'm still discovering new things about it. I love the workouts that are pre programmed on it. While my husband has been training for a marathon, I have been working out on a weight-loss program (lost 47 so far!) and we both needed /wanted a really kick-butt elliptical machine (and treadmill) like the kind you find in 5 star hotels. (We are not members at a gym). My husband chose this Freemotion due to all the positive reviews (and the fact that after trying it out in the store, I was hooked) and having the ability to set it to do all the funky things he needs it to do for his training.
I use it personally almost daily, however, I do not use any of the cool technology it offers. All I need is my iPad (to read a book) and I can go for about 2 hours, no problem. Every other day I push it and go about an hour, sweating like a pig and feeling like I got a great work out.
I also love how quiet it is....feels (and sounds) like you're floating on air. Because of how quiet it is, I can work out at my favorite time of the night (midnight - 3am).
We've had our elliptical for about 4 months now and it's absolutely wonderful!
