I looked online all over the net. I Also went to all the Local sports shops and by far this is the best one i found. Im a tall guy 6'2 Its comfterable, durable, easy to to get in and out. There one front pole holder, 2 rear pole holders, ice chest in the rear, paddle strap on the side, straps in the front, cup holder by the seat, seating etc is convenient. Its got a nice oitdoorish color as well. I would recommend a friend to get the same Kayak. This is a great catch. Later on i plan to add on a battery powered fish finder/Small battery powered trolly whice is all you really need if you wanna be lazy from time to time. Or just leave it as it maybe a aftermarket seat would be a must. Thats the only adjustment i would suggest, use your imagination. Maybe use front straps to a Milk rack in the front to store fishing gear.
Light weight. Easy to carry in pick up. Easy in and out of the yak. Big cockpit. Stable for fishing. Easy to manover. This yak is JUST RIGHT for an old guy like me (70) to throw in the pick up and head off to the many near by lakes and streams for fishing. I don't need any help and I can always go when I want to with a one man boat and don't have to wait on buddies to show up with the boat. Wife liked it so much, now I've got to buy one for her, so watch that because if you end up like me, your yak will cost twice what you thought it was gonna cost cause you gotta buy two of'em. Next thing I know, she'll wanna learn to fish and then I'll have to take up golf or something to get away. There oughta be a law against women fishin and huntin I say. I'm gonna weld me up an aluminum bracket and attach it to the yak and run my little 28 pound thrust Minn- Kota trolling motor on it. Ha. I say HA!! Look out fish-here I come.
I researched alot of products before I purchased this kayak.First off this product is built very well and works great for fishing.I looked at kayaks from many other sport stores and this by far was the best for the price. The only complaint I have is storage is very limited, but that just means you get creative. If your looking for your first kayak you cant go wrong with a Lifetime Payette.
We bought this on sale at Sports authority. If you like this length kayak you can't beat it for the money. seat is surprisingly comfortable. The only con i can find is the small storage compartment. Theres no reason that it can't be bigger.
I've been fishing for 25 years and now I am so hook to a fishing kayak. The sky is the limit you can just go any where on a small lake or big reservoir lake. I'm so happy I bought this Lifetime Payette 116, it's affordable for every one who wants to get into kayak fishing. It's a little bit heavy around 45lb but that means strong construction. There are kits out there you can add anchor trolley or fish finder to your preferences. Although this is not the best tracking for a 9ft-8in when it's windy or mild water current conditions so you might find it harder to paddle. I like the large inside cockpit and the elevated seat is high makes you feel like a sit on top kayak which I find comfortable and also it keeps me dry. This is a keeper fishing kayak incase you invite family or friends out if you have another one. I've never heard of a Lifetime product before but they sure make good perfomance kayaks at an affordable price. I can't wait to get the Payette Tamarack Angler 120 sit-on top version released for 2012. Overall the Payette 116 is a great fishng kayak.
