Nothing heats up Phoenix like a Suns game. From the team's incredibly talented past and present roster to the unbeatable game-day experience, it's no wonder that inhabitants of "Planet Orange" get so excited about their squad. The only city-specific professional sports team in Arizona, the Suns work hard to make their home base proud every time they hit the court.
The Suns boast one of the most consistent victory records in the league -- from their incorporation in 1968 to the end of the 2014-15 season, their winning percentage was .551, the fourth-best in NBA history. They made memorable appearances in the NBA Finals in both '76 and '93 -- in fact, Game 5 of the '76 championship, which they ultimately lost to Boston 128-126 in triple overtime, has been called "the greatest game ever played."
Over the seasons, some of basketball's most legendary players have called Phoenix home. Three-time All-Star point guard Kevin Johnson played 12 seasons for the Suns between '87 and 2000, while power forward Charles Barkley, who was on the team from '92-96, was the first Suns member to be named NBA MVP. Point guard Steve Nash played for Phoenix from '96-98 before his trade to Dallas, but he returned in '04 to lead a series of highly successful seasons along with power forward and center Amar'e Stoudemire.
As good as the Suns are at playing basketball, they also excel at showing their fans a good time. Their venue was named the Best NBA Facility when it opened in 1992, and it remains committed to staying on the cutting edge. In 2014, it was announced that the facility would transform into a "Smart Arena," offering game attendees high-tech perks like mobile payment options and an iPhone app that uses an innovative iBeacon program. When guests log in, they'll have the chance to win tons of exciting prizes like seat upgrades, free locker room tours and autographed merchandise.
Supporters won't want to spend too much time staring at their smartphones, though—there's so much more to see and enjoy! Go the Gorilla is always fun to watch, whether he's making his spectacular signature dunks, cavorting around the court or firing off sweet fan swag with his super-sized t-shirt cannon. And don't forget about the graceful moves of the Suns Dancers, the hip hop stylings of the Solar Squad, and the high-energy acrobatics of the Verve Sol Patrol. Another favorite act is the Golden Grannies -- fans can't get enough of seeing those feisty ladies grooving to popular dance hits.
But ultimately, it's all about the basketball. As the Suns have risen through the NBA's ranks, their fans have been with them every step of the way. Throughout good seasons and bad, there's never any doubt that Phoenix is "All for Orange."
