Return Policy

Our Team Members understand sometimes your purchases don’t match your expectations, and we are here to help you to find exactly what you need. In-store purchases can be returned or exchanged at any Sports Authority store. Online purchases can also be returned in store and returned by mail.

Although we do our best, sometimes mistakes happen. We want to get the right items to you as soon as possible. If you have any concerns about your purchase, please call our Customer Care Agents at 1.888.801.9164.

Return Requirements Checklist

Please check to make sure your item can be returned. We reserve the right to limit returns or exchanges regardless of proof of purchase.

  • In-store purchases must be returned to our stores. Online purchases may be returned either to our stores or by mail.
  • Purchases must be returned within 30 days of receipt.
  • Items must be new and unused.
  • All returns must be repacked in the original product packaging, with all accessories and parts.
  • To return an item to our stores please bring the receipt, order confirmation email or packing slip to the store along with the item you wish to return.
  • To return online purchases by mail, the return must contain the packing slip.

Refund Rules

We want to make the returns process as simple as possible for you. Here are a few rules about our refund policy that you may want to know.

Returns to Store

  • Refunds for in-store returns with a receipt are issued in the original form of payment.
  • Refunds for in-store returns without a receipt may be returned in the form of in-store Merchandise Credit for the lowest selling price of the item. Merchandise Credits do not expire and are only valid for in-store purchases. A gift card or exchange will be offered for returns with a gift receipt.
  • Refunds for online purchases returned to a store (you must have proof of purchase to return an online purchase to the store) are issued in the original form of payment, except PayPal or PayPal Credit. PayPal and PayPal Credit will be returned as in-store Merchandise Credit.
  • Returns where a Cash Card was earned during the original purchase may result in an adjusted refund amount unless the unused card is part of the return. A Merchandise Credit or exchange will be offered for returns where a Cash Card was redeemed, based on the value of the redeemed card.
  • Refunds may take up to one billing cycle for all types of payment except for cash, in-store Merchandise Credit and gift cards.
  • Refunds will also be given for any extended service plan purchased for a returned item.
  • Your state may have specific rules about refunds. If you have any questions about refund rules by state, please contact your local Sports Authority store.

Returns by Mail

  • Refunds for online purchases that are returned by mail will be issued in the original form of payment.
  • Refunds may take up to one billing cycle for all types of payment except for cash, in-store Merchandise Credit and gift cards.
  • Refunds will also be given for any extended service plan purchased for a returned item.

Return Exclusions:

Certain items cannot be accepted as returns. Other items have special rules that will apply to your return. Please check the exclusions below to see if your purchase qualifies.

Oversized Items:

If you have an oversized item you would like to return, please call our Customer Care Agents at 1.888.801.9164. An oversized item is a large item that may be difficult to return by mail or transport to a store.

Examples include:

  • Items that require assembly.
  • Items greater than 70 pounds.
  • Items with a length or width greater than five feet.
