Comments about The North Face Base Camp Duffel:

I needed a new duffle for a carry-on. Owning the base camp in large, I wanted to get another in small for my upcoming trip. Reviews for the 2015 design were mixed; a lot of folks complained that the missing top handle was a major flaw of the redesign. After purchasing and using this bag, I'd have to disagree. The key to the new setup is that the new side handles help tilt the bag to one side which is much much easier to carry than the previous design with a top handle. There's fewer straps overall making the bag simpler and sleeker. While there isn't the top handle to secure down the shoulder straps when not in use, this was never an issue for me (but then again I didn't check this item but used it as a carry-on). I cannot say enough that the new side handles come in handy a lot. I attached a pic of being able to hang my bag from a bathroom stall coat hook while at the airport. I highly recommend. I will likely also get the one in medium.

Comments about The North Face Base Camp Duffel:

Great bag! We do long home leave trips to the US every year and this bag allowed us to pack it along and then fill it up as we went. Nice and sturdy, easy to see, and a good bag for a family of three boys. I like the large size - big enough to pack plenty but not so big it becomes cumbersome or too heavy for the airlines.

Comments about The North Face Base Camp Duffel:

This TNF bag is very well thought out. convenient carry handles on each end and dual carry handle straps on the top plus backpack straps make this bag an easy bag to carry in a variety of ways, or when it is loaded in a pile of other luggage, the many grab points along with the bright orange canvas, make this bag easy to identify and grab, a no brainier for my next trip to Argentina. Daisy chains down each side plus compression straps which can be used for lashing external items to bag add to the convenience features of this bag. The access to inside is via D shaped zippered opening, which is plenty large enough for even your largest items. At just over $100 on sale I consider this bag a steal for the value.

Awesome bag. Used as a carry on for my trips with no issues. However it does take most of the storage in the overhead compartment. The back pack straps are a good idea but with a heavy load (50-70) pounds is a little rough on the shoulders. The straps need a little more cushion. But with a lighter load they work just fine. The material that the bag is made of reminds me of wrestling mat material and feels like a very durable material.

Comments about The North Face Base Camp Duffel:

Would give it 5 stars if all the straps and loops could be quickly disconnected or covered. When checking in baggage for airlines its a bit inconvenient to detach the shoulder straps and put them inside the bag. Even when shoulder straps are detached, the buckles are still exposed to snagging on conveyor belts. Wish the duffle had short cloth loops and quick disconnects "D" rings or carabiners to reduce the snagging hazard of the shoulder and side cinch straps. Other than that very happy with the bag. Whether traveling by helicopter, crew boat or in the back of a pickup truck, it keeps the contents clean and dry in adverse weather and environments. Especially like that it's easy to clean off grease and mud.
