The right tool

By Dad of future All-star

Comments about Rawlings Adult Gamer 12.5-Inch Baseball Glove:

My 10-yr old had just gotten the baseball fever last spring, after never having played before. We decided he needed a real mitt, and my wife mentioned that the best mitt she ever used before was a first-baseman's mitt. We picked this one up (although last year it was only about $70-$80 I believe). This felt broken-in from day 1, and when you put it on it feels like you were born with it, it's so natural (like a thalidomyde baby, I imagine!). My son practiced his butt off last summer, and this spring and summer he has been non-stop league playing, and is an all-star on the team. ALthough he often plays first base, this mitt also works great for him at short-stop too (I know---he should use a stiffer mitt for that position). And yes, it's probably a bit too large, technically, for an 11 yr-old---but he refuses to use any other mitt. All the other boys "ooh and aaah" when they put this baby on---even adults too! The only draw-back is that after 2 solid summers of use, it is REALLY worn, and I don't know if it can last another full summer; seems like they should last a few years longer than that, no?
