Good Jacket For The Price

By PaulLcn

from Fairfield, CT

Verified Buyer

Comments about ASICS Men's Packable Jacket:

This jacket is very lightweight and thin, so the jacket will be good for warm days to keep wind and mist/light rain off of me. The compact size is good for keeping my day bag bulk down.

On sale the price is as good or better than other unlined jackets from O N vy or Un qlo.

For cooler days or steady rain, I would recommend a lined jacket.

Comments about ASICS Men's Packable Jacket:

Great to pop in a bag before and after use. Absorbs wind perfectly and keeps you dry. It takes a little time to store properly in the pouch

Wind breaker that doesn't break a breeze

By The champ

Comments about ASICS Men's Packable Jacket:

Doesn't really break wind like previous wind breakers I've purchased. Medicore at best. No visibility benefits so running at dusk is not wise. Wouldn't purchase another atleast of that color or quality

Grant packable Jacket for anything outdoors

By Wisco_Wally

from Milwaukee, WI

Verified Buyer

Comments about ASICS Men's Packable Jacket:

Jacket is light, wind resistant, water resistant, and is easy to bring along anywhere due to the fact it packs within its back pocket. Went for a run in the rain this weekend with this jacket and it was visible, I was dry underneath, and water just bounced off. A must-have for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

nice rain jacket

By mark2889

from Dundalk MD

Comments about ASICS Men's Packable Jacket:

I purchased this jacket after the first one failed due to a broken zipper. I liked the jacket so when it was offered for a reasonable price I took the chance. I have worn it several times in the rain and it has performed well. I would recommend the jacket if you need a lightweight jacket to wear in the rain.

Breathable Wind and Bug jacket

By Gear Horse

from Cheeseland USA.

Comments about ASICS Men's Packable Jacket:

I was a Scout leader for 12 years and have used hundreds of clothing items in the field.
One of the hardest and most useful items to find is a outer shell that meets the following requirements without breaking the bank:

Packable (this jacket stows in its back pocket 2x5x8 inch) Light fabric but not paperish.

Breathable fabric! - This is so hard to find today. Most of the manufactures are trying to make waterproof-ish jackets by coating the fabric even though they don't use waterproof zippers and stitching. These coatings make a barely passable rain jacket and destroy the jacket as a wind shell that doesn't overheat. Holding this fabric to your lips, you can still suck some air through….heat permeable yet wind resistant! Try that test on various fabrics and you'll understand.

Not a rain coat! - No coatings. This garment will saturate with rain fairly quickly. That said, You were born wet, the key is to stay warm. Properly layered with non-cotton mid layer, this jacket will reduce evaporative cooling, even soaking wet.

Garment cut – I'm 5'9" 230 lbs 52" chest. The XXL fits like I like for a shell. It Covers my butt, sleeves are long enough to pull over my fists for warmth. Hood is generous and will cover a mid-layer light fleece hood for maximum versatility in the field with minimum garments in my pack. A base wicking layer, mid insulation layer if needed then this jacket as a shell. I also usually carry a light waterproof jacket in addition, or a small umbrella…really. The rain jacket or poncho/tarp rarely gets used.

Bug Jacket – as is, it is more mosquito resistant than light long sleeve shirts. Adjustable elastic at waist and hood with elastic at wrists. The wrists will need altering to snug up a bit. There are no mechanical vents or buttons to let heat out or those evil critters in unlike most fishing style shirts. The weave is tight but still breathable. When this garment is coated with permethrin it will make a genuine bug slayer but won't toxify you in the process like DEET alone will over time. I bought this jacket to soak with permethrin and wear as a primary outer garment while hiking through Tanzania multi-day safaris loaded with nasty biting tsetse flies. 70-80 degrees sun and bugs, a tough combination. My base layer will be a synthetic thin t-shirt. It will be a bit warmish but still a good combination. My last experience with a similar combination was in the Everglades for a week in similar temps and lots of bitey bugs.

Color – Blue is the most attractive color…to mosquitos! it is spec'ed for bug traps!
Black and brown is too hot and attracts Tsetse and some other flies, you look like a buffalo, yum.
Bright colors can attract some insects, you look like a flower. That leaves greens, light grays and khakis. These colors are tough to find because they don't attract casual shoppers.

Comparisons – I have similar jackets that were a lot more expensive but still made lousy rain jackets, didn't breathe enough and were sweat traps. These are all fairly useless as active wear. I tend to be a gear horse and love it when I find something that works!
Good luck with your choice and your adventures, I hope this review helps!
