Comments about Alpine Design Men's Switchback Low Hiker Shoes:

All is well except for the very thin upper leather lace loops. The top left one on the left shoe tore the second time I wore them. They still work just had to skip those top loops. Very comfortable for office wear and are stylish enough for evening wear also.

        Foot Bed Hurts

Comments about Alpine Design Men's Switchback Low Hiker Shoes:

The shoe style, tread and upper materials are nice. However, the foot bed has a raised section down the middle - a long lengthwise hump - that is very uncomfortable. I even inserted my custom insoles, which are better than the thin ones that come with the shoe, but that didn't solve the problem. Thus, while the shoe looks good it doesn't fit well for me. I will return it - not suitable for frequent walking.

The fit was good. Pretty comfortable. Went on a steep his and no sliding around.

Definitely the most comfortable hiking shoes I've ever worn. They didn't even need a breaking-in period. I also like the style - they look great! How they hold up in the long term remains to be seen, but I'm impressed so far.

Comments about Alpine Design Men's Switchback Low Hiker Shoes:

I like these shoes . . . they just did Zion and Bryce Canyon NP's and lived to tell about it. My biggest issue is with how the manufacture designed the stringing of the laces. The very last connection to the shoe is weak loop of material. This point takes a tremendous amount of stress when one is tying the shoes as you tend to pull the laces tighten the shoe around your foot. I've broken 2 of the straps while putting the shoes on. Every other shoe I've owned had an eyelet (a reinforced hole) to take the stress of pulling the shoe laces tight. I ended up making my own holes in the shoes to accommodate this issue. All of this occurred in the first month of ownership. I'll recommend this product with the caveat to either be gentle at pulling your laces tight or just drill holes and bypass the weak strap.
