Tent is NOT waterproof

By Greg the Scout leader

from Laguna Niguel

Comments about Alpine Design Horizon 5 Tent:

Before the first use I applied a waterproofing spray to the entire fly and material. The seams where the tub ( the bottom ) meets the fabric are worthless. In a 3 hour rain, puddles formed inside along the edges except for the front which is protected better with the rain fly. With a 74 inch interior height it is my only option as I'm 73 inch tall. It is VERY easy to setup even for 1 person. I've now applied silicon along the seam and will await the next storm. I believe the tent is the same as the Coleman Kenai which I had for years. That tent had the same rain issue. It also held up to high winds.

Not as good as the older version:(

By Frequent car camper

Comments about Alpine Design Horizon 5 Tent:

I am not expecting this tent to be rain proof but this newer version of this tent does not come with built in loops for pulling the rain fly away from the tent. Pulling the rain fly away allows for air circulation as well as they help to eliminate moisture dripping inside due to rain fly sitting along the tent materIal. They use to have side rain fly zippers for lots of air movement as well as guides with strings:( only things good about this tent now is easy two main pole design as well as standing room height.

This tent is spacious and easy to set up and bring down. We put a queen size mattress inside and still had room to walk around. Can't complain about this one!!!

Comments about Alpine Design Horizon 5 Tent:

I have only set the tent up, not actually used it. Was surprised how big it is, guess I should have looked at measurements better. Should be comfortable. Am wishing it had a tarp type bottom.
Instructions said takes two people to set up, I was disappointed, but found that other than the rain fly, it was handleable by one person!
